MML&K worked closely with VisitLex, The Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Lexington Center Corporation and the Lexington – Fayette County Urban County Government to build a coalition of local and state entities in support of the renovation and expansion of the Lexington Convention Center. There were elements of the project that required cooperation between local government and state entities to reach the goal of successfully funding a $60 million bond issue to support the expansion. MML&K provided leadership to help guide the Urban County Council’s passage of a resolution supporting a 2.5% increase in the bed tax and pushed for accompanying legislation at the state level to authorize the Council to proceed. MML&K worked with then newly-elected Governor Bevin and his staff to develop a unique plan to move forward with funding the expansion in a year devoid of capital expenditure on projects. MML&K was instrumental in educating and promoting the passage of budget language that represented the Commonwealth’s only investment in a capital construction project during the 2016 budget session.
